What is an Exchange Pool Membership?

The Exchange Pool is a non-profit private entity. It is also considered a cooperative in that all members are considered to own a share of the entity. Volunteer activity is inherent in our charter. Members have the opportunity to volunteer to reduce their fees. We depend on our volunteers to do much of the work at the pool. Our only employees are those staff members, (managers, lifeguards) that work during the swim season. All of the administrative functions are handled by board members who are all volunteers. All labor provided outside of the routine tasks during the season are performed by volunteers or outside contractors.

We have a finite number of memberships as defined by our by-laws.

What are the different types of memberships?

Memberships are either individual (one person) or family (immediate family members).

How much does membership cost?

There are two components to cost.

The first component is the membership certificate. This is a one-time purchase. This certificate entitles the member to unlimited swimming during the posted pool hours, guest privileges and voting rights at general meetings. The membership certificate is a one-time purchase. To be a member in good standing, annual fees must be paid in full by May 1st of the current season.

The second component is an annual fee. Annual fees are charged against each certificate holder’s account. The fee structure has been simplified as follows: Individual - $255   Family - $500.  A $30 volunteer fee is included. The volunteer fee is refundable at the end of the season if the volunteer requirement has been fulfilled. Annual fees are due no later than May 1st of the current season in order for a member to remain in good standing. Members whose fees are not paid in full by May 1st of the current season will not be allowed use of the facilities until their fees are paid. Members whose fees are not paid in full by June 1st of the current season will be considered not in good standing. Their membership will be considered in a default status.

How do I get a membership?  THERE ARE CURRENTLY NO MEMBERSHIPS AVAILABLE THROUGH THE POOL. MEMBERS WHO ARE INTERESTED IN SELLING THEIR MEMBERSHIP SHOULD CONTACT VALERIE MILLER AND SHE WILL POST YOUR INFORMATION ON THE WEBSITE BULLETIN BOARD.

There are two ways to get memberships.

  1. Purchase a membership from a member who wants to sell their certificate. Currently, there are no private memberships for sale that I know of (as of 02/03/2010) but this will likely change in the near future. Since all certificates are privately held, the transaction between buyer and seller is private and the Exchange Pool does not participate in any negotiations.  Historically, membership certificates have been bought and sold between $200 – 250. The price is not defined by the Exchange Pool. As a courtesy, the Exchange Pool membership coordinator maintains a list of buyers and sellers. Buyers and sellers who are interested in having their contact information listed can contact the membership coordinator via the website by clicking the link for membership. This information is distributed to interested buyers and sellers as a courtesy and in no way guarantees or implies that a membership will be obtained or that buyers/sellers will be contacted in any particular order. It is important to make sure that the membership you are purchasing is from a member "in good standing", i.e., their membership account is current. If the account is not current, the transaction and resulting transfer will not be honored by the ESP. You should check with the membership coordinator for that information before you complete your transaction.
  2. Purchase a membership from the Exchange Pool (Cost is $200). Currently there are NO  memberships available directly from the pool.  Any memberships associated with defaulted and/or abandoned accounts that do become available are put on sale annually on June 2nd through a lottery process. If memberships become available through the pool, interested buyers should contact the membership coordinator with their contact information. Interested buyers will be entered into a lottery. The lottery is held on June 2nd of the current season. The cost for a membership acquired through the lottery is $200 and the associated annual fees are also due on that date.
  3. If and when the buyer obtains a membership, the membership coordinator will guide them through the registration process and ensure a certificate is appropriately assigned.

How do I sell a membership?

Memberships are sold on the open market. When the seller finds a buyer, a price is negotiated and the transaction is completed. The seller has an obligation to notify the Exchange Pool with the buyer information (name, address and contact numbers) and transaction date. Accounts that are not current are not eligible for resale. This notification of sale/transfer must be done in writing (email is acceptable – a return receipt or a reply should be obtained for email communication).

As a buyer or a seller, how do I know who is interested in selling or buying a membership?

  • As a courtesy for our existing and prospective members, a list of current sellers/buyers is maintained on the website, exchangepool.net. This is a courtesy and in no way guarantees or implies that anyone is guaranteed a membership or that people on the list will be contacted in any particular order.
  • During the season, requests can be posted on the bulletin board at the pool.
  • Networking and word of mouth are also excellent ways to find a contact.

    Membership Buletin Board E-mail

Welcome to our virtual bulletin board (we have a real one, too, at the pool).  Please feel free to post your name and contact info on either one if you are interested in buying or selling a membership.  Of course the one at the pool is limited to pool hours.  To post your name on this virtual bulletin board you need to contact the Membership Coordinator and ask her to add your name.

Be sure to include your phone number and/or email address in your contact information and let Valerie know if it is ok to post it on the website.
