Home Meet Facts to Know E-mail
What to remember:
  • For Evening meets: arrive by 3:45 for a 4:00 warm up! This is essential!
  • For Morning meets: arrive by 7:45 for a 8:00am warmup!
  • Please stay in the team area at the meet and stay with your chaperone. If coaches need to find a swimmer they should know where to look for them
  • Conserve your energy. Swimmers shouldn't be playing around at the meet, save it for your race
  • Swimmers should remember to stay in the water until everyone in their heat has finished racing. This is good sportsmanship and is key in Cyclone swimming.
  • Make sure you eat properly and hydrate
  • If you leave early remember to inform at least 2 coaches and your swimmer(s) chaperone. Your swimmer(s) may be in a relay or still have other events to swim.
Shade Tents:  If you have a shade tent please bring it to the pool a day or two before the meet before so we can set it up and keep our kids out of the sun.

Parent relays:  It has been tradition to have a parent relay alongside the Coaches relay or at least in addition to the Coaches relay at our home meets.  It would be great if we could pull together at least one relay team of 4 Parents to swim at the end of the meet. Bring your swim suit and sign up on the clip board when you arrive. This is a unique opportunity to show your children that you do not just look good in your swim suit. You can swim.

Concessions for the meet. At home swim meets we provide the concessions to sell at the meet. This raises money for our team. Vickie Atkinson has kindly offered to head this up. All families are asked to contribute. Click here for more information.

Swim Meet Readiness. Please read this notice sheet regarding swim meets. It is so very very important.

Parking for Swim Meet
-Please park in the Umstead Parking lot and walk through the cut through path. Its magical!
-However for anyone who parks in the Exchange Pool lot, in an effort to maximize the number of cars in the lot, we are allowing only 6 inches of room between cars. Therefore you should skip breakfast to make exiting your car possible. Plan on exiting your car through the sun roof and please pull forward onto the grass as far as you can go or until you encounter obstacles that will no longer allow you to pull forward. Deer, Trees, you get the picture. Expect that you will be blocked in so resign yourself to cheer for our parent and coaches relay to the very end.
-With all this said. We need 2-3 parking attendants for all our home meets. Arrive with your swimmer and then join us in the parking lot to direct the fun! This really is an essential job so please consider helping out. Thank you in advance.

Armadillo Grill Fun. Its tradition to head over to Armadillo grill in Carrboro for food and beverages after all the meets (not just home meets) so plan accordingly. Please join us.

Summer Swim League News for EXSC Families E-mail

Exchange Pool/Sunset Creek Families

The summer swim league season is nearing. For those of you new to the Exchange Pool or Sunset Creek we have a phenomenal summer swim team, EXSC, coming off two championship seasons. This summer we are hoping to see all of last year’s familiar faces and many new faces as well. Don’t be fooled by our success. We are still all about friends, fun, and improving our swimming skills. We are very excited to have 5 home grown experienced coaches returning this year: Head Coach Michaela Henry and Assistant Coaches Tucker Witsil, Sean and Caity Burke. Congratulations to Abby Isaacswho will join our coaching staff this year.

The Exchange Pool website (exchangepool.net) has been updated and has a current month-by-month calendar of events, swim meets and social activities. Each swimmer needs a registration form and a health form to swim. These can also be found online. You can bring them to the Open House on May 16th, or mail them to Jeanne Taekman.

Your Exchange Pool membership dues must be paid in full in order to register your swimmers. Please take the opportunity to read through the 2010 EXSC Handbook available online. You may notice a few changes. In 2009 our swim team roster grew to over 186 swimmers. This was amazing. With this large number of swimmers we need to adhere closely to our swim team participation guidelines this year:

  • In order to swim on swim team swimmers need to show enthusiasm and willingness to be in the water
  • They need to learn in a group environment and they must be able to swim at least 10 yards unassisted to start with.
  • We will not offer waterspouts this year. We are asking parents to consider private or group lessons for those swimmers who can not swim 10 yards at the start of the season. Swimmers can join into the team at any point in the season when they meet criteria.
  • The coaches will be doing swim assessments at open house and the first week of practice.
  • We have also added this year a recommendation that each swimmer participate in at least 2 swim meets. Swim meets can be noisy and intimidating for some children. It is understandable that some swimmers do not wish to compete. However we are a Team and we hope that you will encourage your swimmer to attend at least two swim meets to cheer and support their teammates as they compete.

T-shirt will be free to those swimmers registered prior to May 28th. Additional t-shirts for parents and siblings can be ordered prior to May 28th by filling out the order form available online.

We have formalized our junior coach selection process this year. If you have a teenager, 14 years or older, interested in junior coaching please check out the web site for an application. We would love to have them.

SwimTeam has so much to offer this summer. Please check the web site, download the calendar, and forms, and join us.
